We are honored to announce the launch of our first annual HOPE Forward Scholarship created to support and empower single mothers as they pursue education and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
This year, we will award two $500 scholarships to single mothers who are enrolled in a certificate or degree program that will strengthen their employment opportunities and increase their earning potential. We believe that education is a powerful step in moving from just surviving to thriving, and we are committed to walking alongside moms on that journey.
Our inaugural scholarship is especially meaningful as it is presented in loving memory of Tonya Jones - a devoted mother, educator, and inspiring example of perseverance. Tonya was a proud graduate of Pikeville High School, where she was actively involved as a cheerleader throughout her school years and into college. As a single mother, Tonya worked tirelessly to put herself through school, committed to building a better future for herself and her family. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Pikeville College, and went on to complete her Master's Degree and ultimately earning her PhD in psychology from Walden University. Throughout her career, Dr. Jones served as a dedicated teacher and also practiced psychology, impacting countless lives through both education and care. Her life is a testament to resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education. Her heart for others extended far beyond her profession. She volunteered at rehabilitation centers, offering support to those in need, and was a strong supporter of Voices of Hope, an organization that helps individuals affected by substance abuse. Dr. Jones was known for her kindness, generosity, and willingness to give of herself to uplift others.
After her passing in 2025, her friends and family sought a meaningful way to carry forward her legacy. Through their generous donations, this scholarship program was launched-allowing us to award our very first two scholarships this year. We are so excited that we can present this year's scholarships as a way to carry on her legacy- encouraging other single-moms to rewrite their own stories.
